 . . . there’s a better than even chance that the first historical record was a song . . .that song was probably about a hero or heroic deed . . . throughout history we have defined our heroes as those who have prevailed in the bigger battle, won the greater prize, made the grander gesture . . .

But the people who are truly responsible for the continuing unfoldment of this history - - those who have created the page upon which these so-called heroes write their story - - have done so without expectation of glory or recognition. This story, and these songs, are about those heroes . . .
